On Thursday, February 29th all first and second-grade students received their own copy of the book Big Foot and Little Foot: The Squatchicorns. The students also received a reading schedule and bookmark.

Students will read chapters at home with their families and will also reread chapters at school with their teacher. There are also trivia questions that accompany each chapter. Mr. Evavold helped kick off the month-long event by reading the first chapter aloud to the students.

The books were purchased and donated by or generous Otter PTO. This is and has been a fun literacy initiative!

Local artist Sara Ronnevik came in to teach a lesson to Adams second graders. We are proud to be Adams Otters so this was exciting for the students to create an art project displaying a place they love, and make watercolor discoveries!

She talked about the right and left sides of the brain and their distinct functions in art. The students looked at a photo of Adams and then started with drawing rectangles to make the sections of the building and windows (left brain). She then taught them how to mix paint, specifically maroon for the awnings, and then they painted. She made a stamp that they used for the wording on the awnings.

The students were excited to have a real artist in our classrooms teaching art. Sara has a beautiful way of communicating and pulling out the artist in every student.

Fergus Falls first and second graders started our 5th annual One School, One Book read-along on Monday, March 5th. Every first and second grade student received their own copy of Big Foot and Little Foot – The Monster Detector. All students gathered together as Mr. Evavold read the first two chapters aloud as students followed along in their books.

During the month of March students will be encouraged to read the book at home and chapters will be reread at school. There is daily trivia as well. This was all made possible through funds provided by our generous Otter PTO.
