OtterBots finish in 8th place

March 18, 2019

The Fergus Falls FIRST FRC Team 3293 had a fantastic Regional Tournament over the weekend at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The team finished in 8th place out of 52 teams and ended up the #6 Alliance Captain! The results were some of the tightest margin ever seen and at one point on Friday the OtterBots were ranked 1st overall. Just like every year, the three days of competition included challenges, failures, successes and all the emotional rollercoaster that comes from that kind of high level competition. There were teams from 5 states (as far away as California) as well as two other countries (Canada and China).

One of the most memorable moments was during the singing of the national anthem on Saturday, there was a pool of 8 maroon shirts on the field as the talented OtterBots did a tremendous job. It was a very proud moment!

The gritty underdog OtterBot alliance was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the afternoon tournament with some heartbreaking bad luck, but they had a great alliance with the teams from Warroad and Moorhead. It was a memorable alliance and so much fun.

The OtterBots want to thank Otter Tail Power for sponsoring the team. It wouldn't be possible without you. Additionally, the school administration and area teachers are so understanding and supportive as we invade the Roosevelt education area for about 2 months. Thank you!

Otterbots are prepared for competition

The OtterBots robotics team had another successful build season in 2019. Thirteen high school students built a competition robot in just over 6 weeks. The challenge this year is called Destination: Deep Space, and the game is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing this year.

The robot is currently "bagged and tagged", under lock and key, and can no longer be worked on until the competition. The competition this year is at the Great Northern Regional in Grand Forks, ND on March 15th and 16th.
